Come Dine MK

Other than designing and building websites, my other great passion is food. I’m not a fatty by any stretch of the imagination, but I swear there’s a fat man in me dying to get out. But this blog post isn’t about Mars Bars or McDonalds. No, no, no. It’s about my favourite places to dine out in Milton Keynes.

I absolutely love cooking. So much so, I think I’ve only let my girl cook in our kitchen on just a few occasions. After a long day pixel pushing and tussling with wireframes, design concepts and CSS there is nothing I like better than to drink some really good red wine and cook.

However, the passion for cooking doesn’t end there. I also quite like being cooked for and waited on. Which seems a contradiction considering the fact my girl Robyn is rarely allowed to enter the kitchen and cook. And she’s a good too! I massively love the whole experience of eating out. The shower beforehand, the booking the taxi, the arrival and wait in the bar. I love all of it. So I’d like to share with you my favourite places locally.

The Wavendon Arms

This pace will always be a favourite. Not just for the excellent service, food and interior but because this is where I shared my first date with the wife to be. I still remember when “The Wav” was an old traditional pub, and in some ways I do miss the rustic, old-fashioned feel it had. But as commercial as it may be, you can’t knock how damn good it looks inside. The food on offer is always varied and the menu updated regularly. It’s a perfect setting for a romantic night out and only three minutes by car from where I live. Bonus!

The White Hart in Sherington

Ok, ok, not so much Milton Keynes but what the hell. If you want a rustic yet modern pub this place splits right down the middle. And if you also like a damn good Sunday lunch with the best Yorkshire puddings in town, then come here. They also have a great selection of Ales that they update a fair bit. Super friendly and a perfect getaway from the city crowds.

The Birch

This pub/restaurant situated in Woburn has been going strong for over ten years since I can remember. Once again, here is a place that has a wonderful and modern feel to it but has the warmth and ambience you can’t help but be pulled in by. Perfect lighting and superb service combine to make this place an absolute must if you want to experience top quality dining. The wine list is also bang on the money too.

Galloway’s

Again another restaurant in Woburn. God bless Woburn, they have it proper sorted when it comes to pubs and restaurants. Galloway’s is a unique dining experience that’s been around since 1995. Not so much so for the fact there are framed pictures of sporting heroes in a setting that is so warm in its appearance, but for the fact it’s fine dining at its very best. Again the ambience is set so well, but it’s the food that wins visitors over. With local produce on offer and an unbelievable selection of wines this will set you back a few bob but it’s definitely worth it.

So there you go. Oddly enough, the restaurants featured are flirting on the border of Milton Keynes but that’s good enough for me. But these places will definitely be good enough for anyone wanting a great evening out or a Sunday lunch to remember. I certainly haven’t forgotten.
